CARLOS poster

I'm so proud to unveil this theatrical poster I did for IFCFilms, for Olivier Assayas' 5+hour epic CARLOS. The 3-part film, fresh outta Cannes and the New York Film Festival, will be making the rounds across the country soon and its very impressive. I'll plan on posting a process blog about making this poster sometime soon.

NEXT BIG NASHVILLE gig poster

Next Big Nashville and Boss Construction asked me to pitch in on the official series of gig posters for our annual music festival and I came up with this for this Saturday night's show at Exit/In featuring the Protomen, Heypenny!, Kyle Andrews, Peelander-Z and Cheer Up Charlie Daniels. 18x24", printed at Boss Construction, and available at the show.

LONELY AVENUE

Today marks the release of the Ben Folds / Nick Hornby collaboration "Lonely Avenue," an album we've been working on for a little over a year. Ben and Nick have been good friends for a while but always wanted to do an album together, with Hornby (esteemed British author of High Fidelity, About a Boy and others) providing the lyrics and Folds arranging them to music and melody. I, along with the rest of the band, got to play on most of this record and help bring these lyrics to musical life. It was a cool process, I'm proud of it and excited to play these songs out on the road. AND to meet Mr. Hornby at some point soon. Anyways, I won't bother with any links here but if you pick it up please support your local independent record store and, if you really wanna make me happy, pick up the 180gram vinyl. We recorded to tape and the warmest way to hear it back is on a turntable. Here's a video preview of the record. Enjoy!.

KURONEKO poster

I'm so proud to share this theatrical poster for KURONEKO (BLACK CAT) that I designed for Janus Films. I fell in LOVE with this film as soon as I saw it and couldn't be happier to contribute to the theatrical campaign. Request it at your local arthouse and in the meantime look for it in New York City and other cities soon.

DUNGEN PRINT

Updated: The above DUNGEN print is now available in my shop for those who weren't at the show or weren't able to get one there. Roughly 16x20", 3-color hand-pulled screenprint created at Boss Construction. Signed & numbered edition of 40 and there aren't many left. Just click the link above or the red tab at the top of the blog.

BLACK AND WHITE

I drew this for an artist series of coffee cans being produced by Nashville's Bongo Java. The series theme was opposites, and I chose black and white. Other artists making cans for this series include my local printing buddies Andy Vastagh and Bryce McCloud. Click the image to enlarge, and look for it on a can of coffee beans near you sometime soon.

ANALOG PLAYSET

I contributed this custom vinyl robot to Tony Thaxton's ANALOG PLAYSET art show, happening Sept 18th at 7664 Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. The show will feature robot toys by 25 or so artists and musicians, and I believe they're being auctioned off for the Dear Jack Foundation.

Being the toy geek that I am, I was quite excited to do my first custom vinyl toy. My robot sports a hand-drawn coat of black and silver Sharpie ink.

ALL CITY REDRAWN

It's a good day for the flick poster world. Just recently, UK design firm All City Media held their tenth-anniversary party and for this occasion asked several artists to pick a film from their poster portfolio and come up with their own. Thus: All City Redrawn. After a teaser image or two from the party, All City has now posted large(r) versions of all the posters (landscape, or "quad" style) on their site, with a limited edition of prints available for a pretty penny (150 pounds). If money grew on trees, I would snag Markus Walters' print for SPIRITED AWAY. Tyler Stout, already a legendary flick poster artist, released some copies of his LET THE RIGHT ONE IN print (above) recently; maybe some of these other artists will follow suit. A great batch of posters... see the rest of them at All City.

TILT SHIFT

I can't get enough. Tilt-shift is a photographic technique that I'm not going to try to explain off the top of my head because I'm still trying to figure out how to actually achieve it manually. I see there are now apps that simulate this effect. Recently, hundreds of people have started posting tilt-shift photos, which magically transform any land/peoplescape into what appears to be a miniature diorama. Photography is magic. And I love anything and everything pertaining to miniatures. Thus I am obsessed with tilt-shift photography.

There are thousands of pictures out there, like in Flickr's Tilt-Shift Pool, but the video work of Keith Loutit captures it all and puts it into motion. Here is his "Bathtub IV":

MASTERS OF CINEMA

I'm not sure who the designers were on these, but I love some of EUREKA!'s Masters of Cinema DVD covers. Simplicity at its finest, colorful and consistent branding, and some great adaptations of original film poster art. Nice editions too, and plenty of great titles to discover in their catalog... have a look!
