Although it was #12 on my own list (!), I really loved it. Emmanuel Lubezki has better win the Best Cinematography Oscar, even if he's up against the incredible Wally Pfister.
*United 93 was definitely the best directed film this year; I wish Paul Greengrass got a bit more recognition (he wasn't even nominated for the Golden Globes, I don't know what the HFPA was thinking).
*Best Screenplay for the Prestige is very much deserved! Like Greengrass, Nolan is both an outstanding writer and director.
*Best Orginal Score -Clint Mansell did a terrific job on The Fountain! But surely, Tom Newman or David Julyan can't be far behind...
*I was very glad to see Pirates of the Carribean 2 in your worst films. Box-office results for this film appalled me -it was just so bad (except for its production design, maybe).
*Rian Johnson's directorial debut is fine indeed --but Andrea Arnold's Red Road was remarkable, too.
*"Best Use of Silence", that one made me smile :) Little Children should have made it into the category though, I loved how it reinforced the whole tension throughout the film.
*Best Visual Effects --although Children of Men's were amazing, Superman Returns's were just beautiful! I noticed you didn't mention it at all (except for the Best Opening Credits), did you like it?
*The 10 films I put in my most anticipated movies of 2007 list are almost all in your list :) I have to say, 'The Bourne Ultimatum' is definitely the one I'm the most excited about, even more than Spidey 3!

Sorry for the length of the comment, and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us.
Cheers!Lizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08561534944918028971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22565431.post-26367159675302177182007-01-26T14:46:00.000-08:002007-01-26T14:46:00.000-08:00Can I be a pedant?

THE LAST KISS was a big disappointment for me too, in that the original film (L'ULTIMO BACIO) is one of my all time favorites and I had HUGE expectations of the remake that it just couldn't meet. But, like FAST FOOD NATION, it's a movie that I'm disappointed with but I'd still recommend to people; I'm happy that it exists rather than not, as most people I know sadly would rather not sit through a subtitled movie. Maybe the remake would have the affect on someone (albeit a distilled affect) that the original had on me.Sam's Mythhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07149239217754575864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22565431.post-20551585659010778612007-01-16T06:54:00.000-08:002007-01-16T06:54:00.000-08:00Hi! I started reading your blog when it appeared ...Hi! I started reading your blog when it appeared on the IMDB hit list (great publicity!), and really love your in depth views on the movie industry. I'm a movie junky myself, but just didn't get to see as many movies this year as I would have liked, particularly at the beginning of the year. Therefore, I don't think that I can compose an accurate top ten list. But I got a lot out of reading your list! Some thoughts:

-Vera Fermiga was (in my opinion) the worst part of The Departed. I (personally) am hoping she jsut disappears from the Hollywood scene. Her speaking was bland, her facial expression dead and her portrayal of a competent professional woman wholly unconvincing. But that's just my opinion.

-Additions to the most disappointing films of '06: X-Men: The Last Stand, The Last Kiss

You have a great blog here, Sam. It was done well, but it was the slowest movie I've seen in a long time.
