LEVON & SUGAR MAN

Two new prints that I made for last night's Spectacular Poster Printacular are now available to pick up  here in my shop: Portraits of two musical heroes: Rodriguez and Levon Helm. Both are 18x24" screenprints made in Nashville at Kangaroo Press. SUGAR MAN is a one-color edition of 50 on slate grey French paper; LEVON is a four-color edition of 50 on black French paper. Each is $40 or you can get them both for $60. 

New BEFORE SUNRISE and BEFORE SUNSET prints are still in the shop as well.

Thanks to Bryce McCloud, Isle of Printing and the Nashville Print Revival for putting on a great show, one we hope to make a regular tradition in Nashville!

SPECTACULAR POSTER PRINTACULAR

Nashvillians and wayfarers all! There's a Spectacular Poster Printacular coming to East Nashville's Barista Parlor this Saturday night, February 23rd. Festivities (posters and donuts) from 7-10pm. I'll be there, hiding somewhere amongst a who's-who of awesome printmakers from my beloved city: Isle of Printing, Kangaroo Press, Boss Construction, Grand Palace, plus work from artists Micah Smith, Alex Pearson and others. I'll have stuff to sell and stuff to see, so come say hi!

BEFORE SUNRISE / SUNSET

Now available in my shop: this pair of 3-color screenprints made in honor of two of my favorite films, BEFORE SUNRISE and BEFORE SUNSET. Two 16x24" signed & numbered prints, in an edition of 50, available only as a set here.

OSCAR PRINTS

This month I designed these two prints for the Belcourt Theatre's Oscar Picks series. Each is a one-color print in an edition of 15, available exclusively at the Belcourt. 

POST TENEBRAS LUX

Just finished this poster for Carlos Reygadas' POST TENEBRAS LUX. It was my first time designing a UK quad poster and I gotta say I love working in this orientation. Look for it featured in this month's Little White Lies. Carlos Reygadas' new film won the Best Director prize at Cannes last year and will be in cinemas in 2013.

CAVES

Tristen has just launched the Kickstarter page for the self-release of her new record CAVES.  In addition to playing a little on the record, I did the design and layout and I couldn't be more proud to be involved with this release. The album cover photo is by Bekah Cope. The back cover art seen above will be offered as one of the Kickstarter rewards as a limited edition print. Check out the video and lend your support here.

HARMONIC CONVERGENCE

Here's a new piece for the Nashville Symphony's upcoming Harmonic Convergence concert. I've been fortunate enough to work on a few pieces for the Symphony this season and I'll have some more to share soon.

Cinema Sound is back with a vengeance! Use the Soundcloud widget below to stream or download Cinema Sound 2012, an hour-long continuous mix of some of the best instrumental film music of the year. To listen THE COOL WAY, don't look at the tracklisting above; Just enjoy the mix as one piece and see what you recognize. But the tracklist above will help you identify anything that you like, and I encourage listeners to please support the commercial releases of these soundtracks (one of which I'll be designing new cover art for as my first project of 2013).

For this mix I wanted things to segue nicely, and so certain memorable cues may be absent in the interest of the greater flow. 2012!

2012 has been probably the most rewarding year for me professionally, bringing so many great, fun, humbling and challenging projects and so many opportunities to explore different styles of art and design. I wrapped up WORLD ON A WIRE and started THE QATSI TRILOGY for The Criterion Collection, three theatrical one-sheets including posters for two of the most acclaimed films of the year in HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE and ELENA, designed several prints for Spoke Art and the Castro Theatre including two for Wes Anderson movies and one for the new greatest film of all time, a few more for the Belcourt Theatre including their Hitchcock and Bresson retrospectives, a design for the Japanese release of Bresson's FOUR NIGHTS OF A DREAMER, a print for the Nashville Film Festival, three album covers including my first soundtrack cover for Death Waltz Recording Company, a book cover, a restaurant logo, three pieces for the Nashville Symphony, gig posters for Hotels and Highways, Mia Dyson and Natural Child, and countless other posters and projects that I fit in just for fun.

For the first time, I watched over three times as many older films as I did new ones, and thus had the most rewarding film-watching year of my life thus far. My top ten older films I saw this year were L'ARGENT (and every other Bresson film), THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE, POSSESSION, DAISIES, YI YI, ORNETTE: MADE IN AMERICA, MELODY, CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS, BLACK JACK and ETOILE.

I haven't kept up with enough new records to list my favorites of the year, but Melody's Echo Chamber, Daniel Bachman, Zac Clark, Mia Dyson, Four Tet and Tame Impala got the most play on my turntables in 2012.

Getting ready to finish out this marathon year with my fourth-annual New Year's Eve concert with My So-Called Band, the Ultimate 90's Experience. Thanks to all my clients, friends, bandmates and family for such an artistically inspiring year, and I look forward to another one in 2013!

HITCHCOCK PRINTS

This December 26th, the Belcourt Theatre kicks off a 23-day, 24-film Alfred Hitchcock 35mm retrospective, and this 18x24" limited edition screenprint will be for sale on site. Four colors on light grey French paper. Signed and numbered edition of 50. Happy holidays and enjoy the fest!

EYES WIDE SHUT

My latest print for Spoke Art and the Castro Theatre commemorates the screening of one of my favorite films of all time, Stanley Kubrick's EYES WIDE SHUT. I've always wanted to create a design for this movie and was pretty excited when the opportunity came up. This 18x24" six-color screenprint is now for sale at Spoke Art in a signed and numbered edition of 100. Along with two prints for THE SHINING by Joshua Budich and Brandon Schaefer. One more print coming next week and then it's a wrap for 2012!
